Byron L. Barksdale, M.D. is a native of Georgia. He graduated with a B.A.in Pharmacology from the University of Kentucky. He then pursued a combined M.D.-Ph.D. course of study at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine studying the immunosuppressor, 7,12-DMBA, and the mutagen-carcinogen, Benzopyrene, in tobacco smoke. At that time, the University of Kentucky was a well known center of knowledge concerning the neuro-pharmacology of narcotics and controlled substances under William Martin, M.D., Harris Isbell, M.D. and Abraham Wikler, M.D.
After completing all doctoral coursework requirements for a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, he decided to pursue private clinical medicine rather than an academic career. He received his M.D.from UK at age 23, the youngest graduate from the College of Medicine, then, he successfullly completed a rotating internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. For two years, he had a general practice and worked as an Emergency Room physician at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Barksdale then chose pathology as his clinical medicine specialty. He completed a four year (anatomic and clinical) pathology residency in Texas and successfully passed the American Board of Pathology certification examinations. He has voluntarily re-certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology.

Dr. Barksdale is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, a Fellow and Lab Inspector of the College of American Pathologists, a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, a member of the Lincoln County and Nebraska Medical Associations. He also has been actively involved in the CUBA AIDS PROJECT since its inception. He was a guest speaker on HIV/AIDS in Cuba at the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual meeting in Denver, Colorado in 2003. He will be the guest speaker in Havana Cuba March 2, 2016 to an audience of 200 Cuban physicians.
NEBRASKA MELANOMA CENTER ® currently has its home office and "place of service" in North Platte. However, to provide convenient access for Nebraskans to NEBRASKA MELANOMA CENTER ® services, it is the intention of NEBRASKA MELANOMA CENTER ® to offer "outreach" presence on-site or through NEBRASKA MELANOMA CENTER ®'s affiliation with TELANOMA ®, to many Nebraska communities in the Pathology Services, P.C. network and the rest of the World.
NEBRASKA MELANOMA CENTER ® only partners and collaborates with institutions and other caregivers who are "additive" to the quality, safety and efficacy of your evaluation, management and treatment. Skin cancer does not care where it occurs, but we do!
NEBRASKA MELANOMA CENTER ® clinics offering local services are planned for Scottsbluff, Kearney, Grand Island, Lincoln, and Omaha.
